An accomplished and beloved dentist in Atlanta, Georgia, Destinee R. Hood, DMD, has led a strong, successful team as the owner of a practice—Roswell Dental Care—since 2019. Through the family-focused practice, she has found it incredibly rewarding to enhance the smiles and lives of those in the community.
Dr. Hood was raised in Michigan by a single mother, Sue Ingrao, who, although did not attend college, pushed her to understand the value of furthering her education. Growing up was a struggle for them, as there was very little money, which served to light a fire under her not only to work hard academically and pursue higher education but to do well for herself professionally—all with unlimited support from her mother, whom she considers her “biggest cheerleader.” She ultimately earned a bachelor’s degree in nutritional science from the University of Georgia in 2011 and then graduated summa cum laude with a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2015. Equipped with a degree in her chosen field, she completed a general practice residency in advanced education in general dentistry at the Dental College of Georgia in 2016.
While practicing in Savannah, Georgia in 2018, Dr. Hood gave birth to her son, Atticus, after which she and her family relocated to Atlanta. There, she began searching for a new dental practice to work at and found a position under the mentorship of Dr. David Remaley, the previous owner of Roswell Dental Care. She worked at the practice for about two and a half years until she could purchase it herself and take over as owner in June 2021, with Dr. Remaley becoming her associate. Through him, she has been introduced to several people who have become great assets to her and their practice. A dedicated member of the Georgia Dental Association since 2015, she has also been affiliated with such organizations in her industry as the American Dental Association, American Academy for Oral Systemic Health, and American Academy of Facial Esthetics. Additionally, she lends her expertise to the Atlanta Dental Study Club, part of the Georgia Dental Association, as a lecturer.
As a testament to her achievements in the field, Dr. Hood was inducted in to the Pierre Fauchard Academy, through which she obtained the Pierre Fauchard Dental Scholarship, in 2023. Looking ahead to the next five to 10 years, she hopes to continue providing her practice and services to her patients and team, as well as become a mentor to those starting out in dentistry. She is currently involved in a team-building series with her team. As a leader, she lives by Kaizen, the approach to have “constant gradual improvement in all areas.”
